The Moat School moves to its present site. Note the gable wall facing you is still part of the original school. Can you see the workhouse and the old infirmary?
PE was called Physical Training. There was lots of manual labour to be done at the time and everyone needed to be fit and strong

Both Mr and Mrs Gillespie (husband and wife) on the left were both principals of the school.
The school garden was very important to Mr Gillespie and the boys loved to get out to help!

Pupils came to school well into their teens. Note some are barefoot. Some may have walked for miles but parents wanted them to have an education.

School Extension opened in 1979. This extension included the present assembly hall and gym, the kitchens, P1/2, P3 and P5/6 classrooms, school office, staff room and toilets.
