Lough Erne Heritage Trip

3rd Oct 2023

P4 enjoyed a lovely trip to Crom Estate. When we arrived we met up with P4 from St Ronans.

Tony asked us to get into groups. There were lots of super activities.

We went on a nature hunt to find species for each letter of the alphabet.
We used binoculars to do some bird spotting.
There was a blacksmith there who told us about the work in a forge. We watched him heat iron and then bend it. We all got a lovely heart with our name on it. Each person got a chance to bend some iron in a vice.
We watched a lady make soda farels. She baked them on a griddle over a turf fire. It was delicious especially with strawberry jam.
A lady named Freya showed us how to spin sheep’s wool on a spinning wheel. We then got a chance to try to spin wool using a spinning top. It was tricky.
Two gentlemen from Fermanagh Bee Keepers Association gave us a talk about bee keeping.
There was a tasty lunch provided and the weather was glorious.

We can’t wait to go back.
