P2 Trip to Oakwood Bushcraft

22nd May 2023

Today we all have had the amazing experience of a trip to Oakwood Bushcraft Forest School and WOW what a day we have had! With great excitement we left school on Johnny's bus. We arrived at the Forest School to be greeted by Tony and his lovely wife Debbie. We had an informative chat in the greetings tent and from there our fun adventure began.

Tony picked two team captains. We were then split into two teams and we had to work together to gain points. Our first activity was a scavenger hunt. We had to find lots of forest goodies and then count up the points...it was just like a numeracy lesson with Mrs McConkey. 😃 We enjoyed snack, then on to the next activity...building a den. Tony gave each team a wooden box with ropes and tarpaulin and wow what a result...two very different camps all set up with BBQs, camp fires and home comforts Tony showed us how to tie knots and how to create a shelter that wouldn’t fall over. We had so much fun and our ‘Dens’ were so good we all got to enjoy our lunch in them. Our next task was to demolish our dens and put everything back where we got them...easier said than done!

Part of forest school is taking risks, taking them in a safe environment. Tony showed us how to light a fire using steel and a flint with some cotton wool. We tried and tried and tried. Some got a fire lit easily, others worked at it until everyone was successful. Our treat for our success was delicious chocolate biscuits ‘s’mores’ 😋 yummie!

Our final fun activity was archery. Little did we know how many Robin Hoods we had in our class...they really surprised themselves with how good they were at hitting the bullseye 🎯

A massive Thank you to Tony and to Debbie. They have such a wonderful Forest School, to Johnny for taking us there and back safely and to Mrs McConkey for organising such a fun filled day! We will have LOTS to talk about in circle time tomorrow! 🤣
